Day 36: Say nothing todayIt’s amazing how much of the time we speak to say nothing of interest, in fact a lot of social interaction is superficial, with people just talking at cross-purposes because they love the sound of their own voices, I often wonder how much we’d all actually say if we had to stick to important and relevant things like information of a practical or dedicated nature like how to start a fire of build a house, stuff like that that makes a difference to how we live, not a lot I suspect because in truth not many folk obey the old adage and turn their tongue in their mouth several times before speaking, indeed once would make a hell of a difference already the way some carry on as if they were full of supreme wisdom when they are talking out of their anal orifices, excuse my French, of course in some countries and cultures like France it’s considered polite to chat incessantly, sing for your supper, but at least there they have interesting cultural stuff to discuss, so much so that it’s a true pleasure and entertainment to witness a Frenchman in full flight although they also have the Mime Marceau guy so go figure that one out, I guess that’s why the French are supposed to be so full of contradictions, anyway, to get back to my point here there should be a way against verbal diarrhea or at least something like a red card that you could shove in the face of loudmouthed people when they were wittering on, hey that’s a great idea if I say so myself, maybe I should patent it and rake in it so that I could go live on my own desert island and not have to put up with incessant chi-chat but I digress, now what about those mute nuns they really are something they just decide to shut up one day for twelevescore years or whatever and zip, that’s it, even if they feel like a good bitch about the mother superior and God knows, nuns gossip like the rest of us, oops shouldn’t bring God into it, sorry, blasphemy kills and that, but as I was saying, there should really be more people taking that vow of silence that would clear some airspace for the rest of us to hear ourselves think, but do you think those individuals have even an ounce of consideration for us, no sirree, not one little bit between them, they know who they are, now I’m a pretty relaxed person I would say, but sometimes it drives me mad and I start twitching and sometimes I tell them straight off shut your piehole, I say, which is a very useful expression and conveys the point nicely though the French never seem to get it but then again they’re a special case as I was discussing above and if you know there’s no word in French for quiet, apparently, which is pretty significant in my book, just like the Icelandic Eskimos have 213 words for snow which would indicate they’re a pretty chatty lot, not sure I could put up with hours of that kind of conversation, anyway where was I oh yes one time there was this girl I was going out with who was talking and talking about how she’d had all these problems in her childhood with her uncle and yadda yadda yadda so I just said you must mistake me for someone who cares, anyway and would you believe that shut her up pretty sharpish let me tell you and that’s another free tip for nothing, so take it from me and the world would be a whole lot better off if there was a day where no one said anything like today.
Well, although I agree with them that some people really do talk to much and you wish they would just stop talking for five seconds to give your brain some peace; being silent isn’t something that I can do when I have to be at work. Most of the time when I’m at work I am very quiet though, and really don’t talk much unless someone speaks to me or I have a meeting or something; so I guess in that way I did complete today. Also, when Bruno is at work I am home alone with our cat so there is a lot of silence from me there. All that quiet should make up for the fact that I wasn’t entirely quiet on this day.
**Note about this book, whomever the editor was, really didn’t check it for errors… I have found so many grammar and misspellings so far… as for the above I realize it was supposed to be a run on sentence… but just saying!**
